Hartmann Schedel's Liber Chronicarum (Nuremberg, 1493), also printed in German as the Weltchronik (Nuremberg, 1493), has a small woodcut of Ptolemy with an anachronistic horary quadrant (p. CXIIII verso of the German edition). Most of the idealized portraits of kings, popes, prophets, philosophers, etc., were used over and over again by Hartmann and the Ptolemy portrait turns up again for the singing tutor Guido of Aretio (p. CLXXXIX verso), apparently intended for the astrologer Guido Bonati (p. CCXIIII verso) and interchanged by mistake. The c. 650 woodcuts for this work were designed by Michael Wohlgemuth (1434-1519) and his stepson Wilhelm Pleydenwurff. It is perhaps interesting to note that Albrecht Dürer was a pupil of Wohlgemuth.
