
Only a few recordings of Joseph Quesnel's musical works survive to this day. They were revealed to the public in 1965 in a Radio-Canada television production. Three years later CBC's International Service and the Select recording house produced an abridged version of Colas et Colinette from a version restored by Godfrey Ridout. The performance of highly acclaimed Canadian opera singers in this recording is an important factor in its success. Lucas et Cécile, a significant Québec work has never been recorded. Its recent restoration by John Beckwith explains the fact that some artists have included extracts on recorded anthologies.
