Barnes's Histories of the United States are so well known to school teachers troughout the entire country that they need no introduction. Since their first appearance, twenty-five years ago, many books of a similar nature have been published, but none of them have ever achieved so wide and so constant a use as Barnes's Primary History and Barnes's Brief History of the United States. Their success and popularity have been not alone extraordinary, but entirely without precedent.

Jolliet, de face, barbu, chapeau, habit à franges, rame derrière l'Amérindien. Un autre canot suit en cortège, avec à bord, un des personnages avec un large chapeau.
